I know I'm not really that old (38),but the injuries have piled up,plus I have a rather physical blue collar job. How do you approach training/teaching when you can be tired, sore or old? Do you ever feel a bit of pressure when you're looking at a bunch of 20 year olds who can do easily what might take me some warming up to do? I tend to fall back on experience and finesse, especially in sparring, but often wish my legs had more pop.

I know it's just a bit of ego,but how you deal with being called "Sir" before you're ready?

Hey Dawg!

I will be turning 48 just before the Beach Camp next month. I know what you mean about the injuries piling up, but I choose to simply ignore them and keep going! That is my basic plan from now until the day I die! Now I just have to stick to the plan!

Try being 64! I may not be able to workout as much as I used to, but I seem to see by training partener's preparation a lot easier. I'm too old to have opponent's and most of my enemies are dead.

White flower linament. (level 1)
Hot epsum salt bath. (level 2)
Few advil an a nice glass of red wine. (level 3)
a woman who gives a good swedish massage. (Level 4)
Hot tub with the woman and a bottle of the red wine. (level 5)

Short of broken bones these should sustain you well into your 60s

I might not be getting younger, but I do keep learning what makes life more bearable.

Hi Guys
Training around injuries is important as I get older. There is no point in looking back at the easy way we achieved our goals in the good old days!
Just enjoy the training and push as hard as possible without injuring yourself.

I know how you feel. I am 55 this month. but I keep on training, and going on and on. I feel that if we keep working out then when we reach 70 at least we can still defend ourselfs, and may be help the younger ones along the path in JKD from our years of training. Rick Mullinax

Well Guys!

I have OFFICIALLY successfully made it to 48! Pretty good considering I still do bouncer work, and Saturday night I had a beer bottle shattered across my left elbow while restraining a big guy with an arm lock and neck torque (back kicked the guy that did it straight into a brick wall), knocked a guy clean out with a straight punch that hit him right between the eyes, and forearm smashed a guy heavier than me so hard he hit the floor butt/back first! All in a night's work for an "old guy like me"! LOL :D
