what is the " lead snap punch" in Jun Fan, and how is it applied?

It's a punch that uses full extension almost hyper-extending the elbow. The punch uses only a 1 to 2 inch penetration. The fist is at a 45 degree angle.

Have you ever played pool...

when you hit the ball at the top you get a follow through.....a push
When you hit the ball in the middle you get a stun shot......a heavy punch are these two examples.
when you hit the ball at the bottom you get a screw back....the snappy punch.
if you ever watched bruce doing the kicking on the board whith herb jackson and you can hear herb say after bruce kicked "you were shorts" or something like that he said, thats where i think his kick was to jammed up so it was more of a push rarther than a thrust, so the trigger had to much squeeze and not enough push.
so i would say the thrust is inbetween the push and the snap....

ps...now when you hit the ball at top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right,
this will give you an angulated shot after hitting another ball....or when you hit the ball using this shot you will automatically move in that direction before you make contact with another ball.
now can you drive a heavy punch off an angulation?
well! if you was driving down the road quiet fast and you didnt slow down to turn a corner then what would happen.skid around the corner and crash.
now if you did the same thing but this time used a lttle handbrack(bringing the backend around) and clutch control you would still skid but manage too stear around ok.
I would say the eliptical jab would be better used for angulation as this is different from driving forwards with forward pressure into the opponent.

Joe,
The straight lead punch is hard to explain in words. You need to have someone who knows it teach it to you. It's simple but complex to get right.

hi joe. I got myself in a stance, front foot 12 oclock and rear heal 6 oclock.
then i put my body line so my body is at a 45 degree angle facing front,
i think the snap comes from the elbow and the fist is at a 45 degree angle, i could practise it with a partner on a focus glove, make sure you have a 1 inch penetration as to get the snap from the elbow,so not to have any preperartion,
hope this helps....
