Mr.Tackett,
My quetion is this, after so many years traing your JKD do you think there can possibly be a definitive JKD?

I understand that things change as better ways are discovered. It just seems that there are people from different eras who say they practise a JKD as Bruce taught it from a certain time in his life.
Would'nt the JKD that Bruce was doing at the time of his death be JKD. I'm trying to understand the concept of JKD concepts. Or why a person can't just say they practise JKD because they are open minded. (Maybe that is over simplifying)
Because you do in fact need techinque to teach to people in order to get them to start their process, correct? But for example, you would'nt show them the Krav Maga way of fighting.
Do you have to finally get "IT" in order to practise JKD. Is it all really a mind frame or understanding?
I hope I'm clear and not to long winded.

Bruce taught what he called JKD. That is, there were more than principles involved. There were also ways to to something that was more efficient or powerful than other ways. In our classes we teach technique. We teach what we feel are the best ways to punch or kick, but that doesn't mean we are stuck there. We are always looking for a better way to do something or to find a better training method. If we find a btter way we are not too proud to throw the old one away. We believe that JKD is more than just "doing your own thing".
Good Question.
