I've received a few emails asking why we are having some grappling sections at our JKD camp. The reasons are as follows:
1. A lot of our guys are interested in fighting in UFC type matches. To do this is seems a good idea to learn to defend against being taken to the ground and when on the ground getting back to your feet as quickly as possible. Since because of rules and no shoes some of the basic JKD tools can not be used in the ring, we need to be able to understand the rules and the basic tactics of the grappler.
2. If you get in a street fight it is quite possible that your opponent will have some grappling training. In this situation you are not bound by the rules and use whatever you need to save your butt and not go to jail.
Any grappling taught this year will be for either #1 or #2 above,
Richie Carrion will be teaching a section on using JKD principles and drills to fight in the ring.
Jim McCann will be working on how to get to your feet fast in a rules or no rules situation.
Lloyd Kennedy will be teaching no rules and anything goes street grappling against the guy who wants to take you to the ground in the street type situation..
Other sessions and teachers are:
Mike Goldberg - Unmatched trapping hands
Mario Mandangle - Oakland kicking drills
Patrick Cunningham - Distance in attack and defense
Vince Raimondi - JKD footwork
Brett Lance - Drills to get power in your punches
Barry Dixon - Boxing drills
Willie Wilson - (If he can get off work) In-fighting.
Jeremy Lynch - Drills to get maximum kicking power.
Bob Bremer - The hammer principle
Jim Sewell - Leg obstruction
Tim Tackett - Attack and defense drills
Richard Weiss my not be able to make it the 1st day and will assist when and where he can.
Louis Berard and Shawn King just want to be students this year as Louis may not be able to get out of Navel Reserve training which is scheduled for the same weekend, and Shawn, who is a San Diego police officer, may not be able to get off work for the entire session.
So who's coming?

Sifu... That sounds like an awesome line up. I would love to get out and the only thing stopping me may be my financial situation. What is the latest I could leave it before I make a final decision? I do not know how I will be fixed for money from one month to the next.

We have our seminar in Vegas as a convenient location so that our instructors in Europe and the USA can get together with some of their students and any one who might be interested in our brand of Old School JKD. It's a good place to come to as you can stay after the seminar and have a Vegas vacation. What schools are in Vegas has nothing to do with it. I'm sure that there are some great schools in Vegas, but what does that have to do with our seminar?

Marko,
If you're the Marko with Carnell, we would save a apace for you and any of your mates. You may not be able to get a room at the seminar location, but there are some motels within walking distance.

Sifu... yes I am under Sifu Dave. Thanks for that offer. I have many obstacles in my way, but I am working on solutions to them. I really hope I can get out there.
