I know some of you guys from WNG have been interested in competing so this is your chance to do so without paying anything and without the fight going on your record.

The details are still being arranged but it will be amateur pankration style using 7oz mma gloves and shin guards. Only people who have not competed in a sanctioned fight may compete.

Exact fight date is TBD but will be a Saturday in April.

Post here or message me if interested.

Steve,

Yes, the plan is April. I'll post details as I know them.

Charles fought in the last one and we learned a lot. The way we train JKD did not exactly lend itself to these modified pankration rules.

Anyway, if you want to compete you have about seven months to prepare which is a good length of time to sharpen up your ring fighting tactics. This is MMA which means you'll need to work on takedown defense and some basic ground fighting of which we do very little at WNG.

Man thats cool charles fought in the last one. Im down for it i just need to work on my takedown defense and ground fighting. I dont know if you and charles would be down to help me out with that a little bit.

Plus im supposed to fight in a kickboxing match im not sure when i want to do it within the next 3 to 4 months and its sanctioned and goes on your record am i still gonna be able to fight in the mma match. plus whats the difference between pankration and an mma match?

That's cool that you'll be competing in kickboxing. Is this with Jeremy's class?

It should really help you prepare for an MMA match. As for the ground fighting, I really don't think that "a little bit" is going to help much. I recommend getting some solid training on a consistent basis until fight time.

Pankration rules do not allow head strikes. There is a possibility that the rules will be modified to allow head strikes, but I'm not sure as of yet.

Yeah its for Jeremy class plus i just wanna do it. i wanna fight really good guys and get better test myself and be able to really do what we drill and apply it. So if i fight in a kickboxing match and get record will they still let me fight in the pankration match?

Yes, I'm sure that's fine. I think it's more of an experience issue.

Alright cool so they only want guys with little to no experience

They are definitely not looking for competitors with no experience. I believe the requirements are anywhere between 1 - 3 years of training roughly with no significant fight record.

Competitors will be matched based on weight class and relative experience.

Steve,

I am not an organizer.

No license is needed.

This event is not sanctioned by any organization. It's just a friendly get together with a few sparring matches and a BBQ afterward. Nothing is being sold and there are no titles to be won and there are no regulatory agencies involved.

It's just an opportunity to see whether your JKD skills will stand up to modern combat sports.
